US technology giant Apple and conglomerate General Electric (GE) have entered into a new partnership to improve software involved in tracking power plants’ effectiveness.
The two companies have created a tool for app developers that makes it easier to connect Apple’s iOS operating system to GE’s Predix.
Predix connects sensor-laden industrial machines like wind turbines to data centres, so that streams of information can be analysed to help predict failures and make the machines more cost efficient.
The new software built with Apple is expected to be released on 26 October and will help on-the-ground managers of factories and power plants who work most closely with GE’s equipment.
