New business opportunities for EPCs as SOCAR finishes design of gas processing complex in Azerbaijan
SOCAR (SOCAR, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) completed primary engineering and design of a new GPC gas processing and polymer complex in the Garadagh district of Baku, Interfax reports, citing President Rovnag Abdullayev.
“Currently, the GPC construction project is being negotiated with foreign investors. The primary engineering and design (FEED) of the complex has been completed. Work on the contract based on the Open Book Cost Estimate method is also in the final stage,” R. Abdullayev said.
According to him, the signing of the EPC contract will take place after the completion of financial and investment issues.
Earlier it became known that the company plans to begin construction in late 2018 – early 2019. An area of 305 hectares near the village of Sangachaly was chosen for the plant, of which 250 hectares will be allocated for construction.
The complex will produce 130 thousand propylene, 42 thousand tons of benzene, 25 thousand gasoline and 600 thousand tons of polyethylene per year. In addition, the obtained 32 thousand tons of butylene-1 and 21 thousand tons of hexene-1 will be used for processing in the project perimeter.
Technology and licenses by companies Technip, Axens, Sinopec Tech and Univation will be used in the future complex.
SOCAR GPC will include a gas processing complex with a capacity of about 10 billion cubic meters per year and a petrochemical complex. The cost of the project is tentatively estimated at $ 4.2 billion.
SOCAR is a regular attendee of the Downstream Caspian and Central Asia conference that will be held on 4-5 of December in Almaty.
