SHYMKENT REFINERY COMPLETES ITS MODERNISATION PROGRAMME WORTH $1,85 BLN
Shymkent refinery completed modernisation programme with the launch of a new control centre. According to the President of PetroKazakhstan Oil Products Jiang Shi, the investment was worth $1,85bln.
He also mentioned that the modernisation programme was divided into two stages. In July 2017 the isomerisation unit was launched. The completion of the control centre was the end of the second stage.
The modernisation allowed the plant to improve the quality of petroleum products. Whereas previously the refinery was only producing Euro-2 standard fuel, now it also produces Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards.
“Our biggest achievement is that we decreased ecological risks. That is to say, the sulphur content of petroleum was reduced by 10 times. The second important outcome is that we increased refinery yield. Where once we were getting 50% of light oils from 100%, we now get 80%”, – pointed out the head of the company.
He also noticed that after the modernisation overhauls will be carried out every 1,5 years, and later – every 3 years.
Shymkent refinery was build in 1985. Its designed capacity is 5,25mln tonnes or about 40,65mln barrels per year. The refinery is accounted for 30% of the whole output of three Kazakhstani refineries. 50% of its shares belong to KazMunayGas, another 50% to CNPC.
