SOCAR is finishing selection of EPC contractor for gas chemical complex in Azerbaijan

SOCAR is finishing selection of EPC contractor for construction of the Gas Processing Complex (SOCAR GPC) is Sangachaly town in Azerbaijan. SOCAR intends to send part of propylene from the planned gas chemical complex (SOCAR GPC) to SOCAR Polymer, which will increase polypropylene output to 210 thousand tones by 2022. 

The complex will produce 130 thousand propylene, 42 thousand tons of benzene, 25 thousand gasoline and 600 thousand tons of polyethylene per year. In addition, the obtained 32 thousand tons of butylene-1 and 21 thousand tons of hexene-1 will be used for processing in the project perimeter. As it was earlier reported the cost of the construction of a new gas-chemical complex will amount to approximately $ 4.2 billion.


Earlier Rovnag Abdulayev, SOCAR President said in an interview “Currently, the GPC construction project is being negotiated with foreign investors. The primary engineering and design (FEED) of the complex has been completed. Work on the contract based on the Open Book Cost Estimate method is also in the final stage”


Technology and licenses by companies Technip, Axens, Sinopec Tech, and Univation will be used in the future complex. SOCAR GPC will include a gas processing complex with a capacity of about 10 billion cubic meters per year and a petrochemical complex.


SOCAR intends to send part of propylene from the planned gas chemical complex (SOCAR GPC) to SOCAR Polymer – integrated complex including a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plant and a polypropylene (PP) plant.

SOCAR is the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.

Socar Polymer, a joint venture (JV) created in July 2013 between Socar, Pasha Holding, Azersun Holding, and Gilan Holding.
