Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat plans to implement MTO technology

China’s Wison Engineering presented Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat technologies for producing olefins from natural gas. Following the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed.
The parties held talks on cooperation for a new project for the production of olefins and polyolefins in Salavat. The negotiations resulted in the signing of a memorandum on cooperation in the field of gas chemistry between the company Wison Engineering, Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat and Salavatgazoneftekhimproekt. According to the Government of the Republic of Belarus, the investment in the project may amount to several billion dollars, the construction period is about three years.
Within the framework of the planned cooperation, the Chinese company is ready to provide technical support to the project at the Pre-FEED stage, to participate in the design of the complex, the selection of technology, the development of the basic project and the economic rationale for investments, to interact with the design institute of Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat.
“As part of the One Belt – One Way Initiative, and also taking into account the potential demand for oil and natural gas in the Russian market, our company has seriously invested in expanding its presence in this market. Wison Engineering has extensive experience in such areas as production of methanol from methanol and olefins (MTO) from natural gas. So far, we have developed or performed EPC contracts for MTO production with a capacity of 300, 600 and 900 thousand tons per year, promoting Honeywell UOP technology,” – commented following the results of the negotiations executive director and Senior Vice President of the Chinese company Dong Hua.
Representatives of Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat noted that the successful experience of implementing MTO technologies by the Chinese side is an important component of the success of future cooperation. The press service of the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat did not clarify though, which technological solutions are being considered for the future complex.
According to preliminary data, we are talking about processing about 2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. The head of Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, Airat Karimov, previously clarified that after the launch of the complex, the company will be able to additionally produce 416 thousand tons of polyethylene and 617 thousand tons of polypropylene per year.
Wison Engineering specializes in providing services in the EPC format, technological solutions in the chemical industry. It also manufactures equipment for the petrochemical, coal-chemical and petrochemical industries. The company operates in 15 countries.
In May last year, the company signed an agreement with Honeywell UOP, under which the parties intend to jointly provide MTO technology (methanol to olefins), as well as provide design services, logistics and construction of enterprises outside of China.
Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat performs a full cycle of hydrocarbon processing, produces gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, other petroleum products, liquefied gases, butyl alcohols, plasticizers, polyethylene, polystyrene, ammonia, and urea.
